Condo conversions are apartments that are converted to condominiums and is an affordable alternative to buying a brand new town home. Owning a new home can be difficult for many people, especially in California. Where the median price for a 2 bedroom town home is approximately $500,000. A conversion two bedroom begins at approximately $180,000 and depends on the area of the property. Since first time home buyers generally look for lower priced home this would be a good option.  Condo conversions are also of interest to investors since they compete with rental properties in their surrounding areas.

Condo conversions are not built to directly compete with the newer homes and can benefit a city immensely. Besides providing homeowners an affordable alternative, they also can revamp a city. For example, National City and Chula Vista are currently undergoing a major renovation; with the onslaught of new condo conversions and the possibility of a new Chargers Stadium.

So will the Condo Conversion trend die down anytime soon? My opinion is that converted condos will always be popular since housing, whether it's to purchase or rent, is essential to any city. The value of each conversion will depend on the location of the property.  In San Diego, the downtown area will generally have a much higher price tag than in National City and Chula Vista.

Condo conversions have great benefits, it allows homeownership at a lower cost, and revamps cities that may have been neglected. In brief, I hope this condo conversion trend is a trend that will definitely stay!
